When Ministry Pauses for Fellowship
By Tyler Hampton · June 20, 2026

Sometimes, after we’ve spent time serving in our community and the surrounding areas doing God’s work, we like to take a step back and simply breathe with our church family. At Dirt Road Ministry, there are many ways we come together in fellowship, but one of our favorites is something simple: gathering together to watch a movie.
Every few months, we set aside a night to slow down, relax, and enjoy time with one another. We also rotate what we watch, making sure there is something for everyone. One time it may be an animated film for the children, and another time it may be a live-action movie for the adults—but no matter what, the focus is always the same: faith-based storytelling that brings us together.
So far this year, we’ve enjoyed two wonderful films: “The Star” and **“Courageous.” **For those who may not be familiar, The Star is an animated retelling of the birth of Jesus Christ, told from the perspective of the animals present during that holy night. It’s a lighthearted, family-friendly film filled with humor, warmth, and a beautiful reminder of the miracle of Christ’s birth.
On the other hand, "Courageous" takes a deeper and more emotional approach. It follows four men in law enforcement as they each face personal struggles, trials, and moments of testing. Through their journeys, they are challenged to make a life-changing commitment—and to stand firm in it. It’s a powerful story filled with lessons on faith, responsibility, and conviction.
While the stories are very different in tone, both films share the same purpose: to point us back to God, to strengthen our faith, and to remind us of the importance of walking boldly in what we believe. And at the end of the day, that’s what these nights are really about—not just movies, but fellowship, rest, and being reminded that we are walking this journey together.
